GET IT NOWMy Broccoli Cauliflower Salad Is A Party Favorite Year-Round

This broccoli cauliflower salad recipe reminds me of a mash-up between my broccoli salad and loaded cauliflower salad. I originally made it for a Christmas party because the red and green colors felt festive, but now it’s one of my go-to recipes for pretty much any get-together. I’ve served it next to burgers in the summer, alongside roasts in the winter, and it fits in just about anywhere. Here’s why I keep coming back to it:
- Savory, creamy, and bright – The dressing has a rich, classic flavor with a little tang to balance it out. It pulls everything together without feeling heavy.
- Every bite has the right texture – I chop the veggies small so you get a little crunch, a little creaminess, and a pop of bacon in each bite. It’s the perfect combo.
- Quick and make-ahead friendly – It only takes about 10 minutes to throw together. I like making it earlier in the day so the flavors have time to meld.
- Naturally healthy – This one checks all the boxes. It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, Whole30, and low carb… but it’s also just plain delicious.
Make it with me! It’s one of those easy wins you’ll find yourself making again and again.

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here I explain the best ingredients for my broccoli and cauliflower salad recipe, what each one does, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card.
Broccoli Cauliflower Salad Ingredients:
- Broccoli & Cauliflower – I usually go with fresh and chop them myself, but precut florets are a great time-saver. I like using both, but it’s totally fine to stick with just one.
- Bell Pepper – I love the pop of sweetness and crunch it adds. Red’s my favorite for the color, but yellow or orange work just as well.
- Cooked Bacon – You can grab ready-to-go bacon bits, but I usually cook mine fresh and crumble it. Oven bacon, microwave bacon, or air fryer bacon all work great for that extra flavor.
Dressing Ingredients:
- Mayonnaise – I usually use my homemade avocado mayo because it’s quick and clean, but any kind works. If I want to lighten it up, swap half for sour cream or plain Greek yogurt.
- Olive Oil – This helps thin out the dressing. You can use another neutral oil like avocado oil if you prefer.
- Lemon Juice – I like the fresh lemon juice for the best flavor, but bottled works too. White Vinegar or apple cider vinegar make good swaps.
- Fresh Thyme – I usually use thyme, but other fresh herbs work too. You can also skip the herbs if you want to keep it simple.
- Spices – I keep it simple with garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Feel free to adjust the salt to taste or swap in fresh garlic if you want a stronger kick.

How To Make Broccoli Cauliflower Salad
I have step-by-step photos here to help you visualize the recipe. For full instructions with amounts and temperatures, see the recipe card.
- Mix the salad. In a big bowl, toss together the broccoli, cauliflower, bell pepper, and bacon bits.
- Make the dressing. Whisk the mayo, olive oil, lemon juice, and seasonings in a small bowl until smooth.
- Assemble it. Pour the dressing over the veggies and mix until everything’s coated. I like to let it chill for a few hours so the flavors really come together.

My Recipe Tips
- Even if I’m using pre-cut broccoli or cauliflower, I still trim them down. Smaller pieces make it easier to get a little bit of everything in each bite.
- Store-bought bacon bits work in a pinch, but I usually cook mine fresh. It adds way more flavor and those crispy little edges are the best part.
- When I want to bulk this up, I’ll toss in things like cheddar cheese, goat cheese, almonds, walnuts, or even red onion. It adds more flavor and makes the salad more satisfying.
- Dried cranberries or raisins are great if you like that sweet-and-savory combo. Just a heads up, it’ll bump up the sugar a bit.
- This dressing is savory, not sweet. If you prefer a sweeter version like in my broccoli cranberry salad, just add a couple tablespoons of your favorite sweetener to the mix. I’ve used powdered Besti or sugar-free honey before and both work great.
- You can totally eat it right away, but I always let it sit in the fridge for a few hours. The veggies soak up the dressing and everything tastes even better.

Serving Ideas
Here are some of my favorite mains to pair with this broccoli cauliflower salad recipe:
- Grilling Mains – I love serving this salad with grilled shrimp skewers or grilled salmon. It’s also perfect with my juicy grilled chicken thighs for an easy summer meal.
- Oven Baked Mains – This salad makes a great side for baked chicken legs or even my baked pork chops. It’s hearty enough to balance out any oven dinner.
- Air Fryer Mains – I usually pair it with air fryer chicken breast, but it’s just as tasty with air fryer pork chops or air fryer salmon when I want something fast and hands-off.

0I love both broccoli and cauliflower but only when cooked. I dont care for the texture of it raw. Would it work if they worked steamed and then chilled?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Aileen, This should work fine as long as the vegetables are lightly steamed. You want them to be able to retain their shape in the salad.
Brandi McClure
0If I thaw out frozen broccoli and cauliflower, would that work? I don’t get fresh, as it goes bad. I have everything on hand for this if I can use thawed frozen. I know this sounds silly, but I am curious. I would like to try it, without having to go to the grocery store, as i have already shopped for the week.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Brandi, I think the recipe should still work if your use frozen. Please let us know how it turns out!
Heather Bailey
0This is a great keto friendly recipe I used to buy this from the grocery store all the time but I feel like they put all kinds of crap in it. I like to doctor my things up because I love flavor. I did add a little bit of monk fruit to sweeten it up and yet it was still just a little too mayonnaise tasting to me so I added a little bit of craft chunky blue cheese which is keto friendly. Oh and I also had a chunks of cheddar cheese cuz I’m a Wisconsin girl. It’s definitely going to work at the barbecue tomorrow. The flavor is heaven on my taste buds
Glenda
0One of our family favorites and it’s always a hit at potlucks.
