GET IT NOWMy Healthy Trail Mix Hits All Your Cravings

When I’m feeling snack-y but don’t know quite what I want… Sweet? Salty? Crunchy? Fruity? Healthy trail mix to the rescue! Here’s why I love it so much better than the store-bought stuff:
- Satisfies that trail mix craving in the best way – With crunchy nuts and seeds, two types of chocolate, a unique type of dried fruit, and even a crispy, cheesy vibe, this mix has so much variety. No cheap fillers!
- Better for you ingredients – Most store-bought trail mixes are loaded with cereal, pretzels, and tons of sugar. My recipe has cleaner ingredients, more protein, healthy fats, and it’s gluten-free.
- Ready in minutes – This homemade trail mix is the perfect healthy snack for busy days, road trips, or lunchboxes. It comes together in just 5 minutes.
Mix up a batch of this healthy trail mix with me, and it’ll be here for you next time a craving hits!

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here I explain the best ingredients for my healthy trail mix recipe, what each one does, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card.
- Nuts & Seeds – My recipe has macadamias, almonds, pecans, and pumpkin seeds (pepitas). Walnuts, cashews, pistachios, peanuts, hazelnuts, or sunflower seeds all work, too.
- Chocolate Chips – I use a mix of sugar free dark chocolate chips and white chocolate chips. Feel free to use any kind you like.
- Puffed Cheese – This is not the same as those processed cheese puffs! Instead, it’s literally puffed up, dried out cheese, and it’s so good. You can get this store-bought brand, but it’s a lot more affordable to make your own puffed cheese popcorn at home.
- Coconut Chips – These are my favorite, toasted and unsweetened.
- Dried Fruit – I love these unsweetened dried blueberries for this healthy trail mix! Feel free to swap in banana chips, dried cranberries, raisins, apple chips, or dried mango or apricots.

My Recipe Tips
- I recommend roasted and salted nuts. You don’t get that sweet-and-salty vibe if you use raw ones. You can easily roast them yourself if needed — just toss with a little oil and salt, then spread out and roast at 400 degrees F, until they smell toasted.
- Check labels for added sugar or GMO oils. These are common in dried fruit, coconut, and even some nuts. If you want a healthy trail mix, I recommend avoiding the various names for sugar (like corn syrup or dextrose), and seed oils (like canola oil, soybean oil, and vegetable oil).
- If anything (like big dried fruit or coconut chips) feels too bulky, give it a quick chop. This helps every bite have a little bit of everything.
- Want it sweeter? This healthy trail mix already hits sweet and salty, but if you want sweeter nuts too, toss everything with 2 tablespoons of my sugar free maple syrup, bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes, then let it cool.
- Want extra protein? More recently I started tossing in this protein cereal or these chickpea puffs.
- Feel free to double this recipe! It stores really well in a big jar or container, or sometimes I divide portions into zip lock bags for portable snacks.

Serving size: 1/4 cup
- Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you pick the best ingredients, get the right mix in every bite, and some of my favorite variations.
- Store: Keep in an airtight container or glass mason jar for up to 6 months. It’ll last even longer in the freezer, almost indefinitely, but I don’t think it’s worth it since it keeps so well in the pantry.
- Note on nutrition info: Macros can vary depending on the brand of chocolate and dried fruit that you use. I’ve linked the ones I used in the ingredient list above.

0I thought I read somewhere you had labels we can print to put on top of the jars with the QR code to the recipe, but I can’t seem to find it now. Do you still have that somewhere? I’m so excited to make this to give to my neighbors. Thanks
